Over the recent weeks there have been a fee announcement by Embarcadero regarding InterBase. These are not tied to the core product but new drivers and new offers, including a new free version of the software. This is a summary:
- A brand new driver for Python. It's on GitHub at https://github.com/Embarcadero/InterBasePython.
- Free embedded database IBLite for all developers, not just RAD Studio customers. It is available at https://www.embarcadero.com/products/interbase/lite/free-download. If you use Python, C#, Java, or any other programming language with a driver (maybe via ODBC) you can take advantage of it.
- A new flat fee (meaning independent from the number of installations of your app) for the embedded IBToGo, offering encryptions and larger databases. This is a great solution specifically for mobile apps, given in case of a huge success and many downloads, you don't have to pay extra for the deployment. This offer is available in the Embarcadero online store (or via partners as usual).

InterBase is a powerful tool, with a fairly low price and Embarcadero keeps seeing good traction for it.
